I’ve been introducing Khruangbin to almost every friend ever since I chanced upon the band via a track in a LateNightTales compilation curated by Bonobo. Hailing from Texas, the trio crafts out music that’s like a blend of psychedelic grooves & Thai funk.
Yup, you heard me right. The music on The Universe Smiles Upon You is inspired by the sound of 60’s Thailand, but with a funkier rhythm. Just imagine if Wong Kar Wai shoots a film there this would be the perfect score. If you like dreamy grooves, this is one highly recommended 2016 album from me.
