It would appear that tons of viewers have a problem with the portrayal of India in Coldplay’s newest music video. Ironically, the very people who are nitpicking at the stereotypes identified and recreated, and accusing the production of cultural appropriation aren’t even of Indian descent. On top of that, many natives had expressed their joy in seeing their country depicted in that light.
While the video might in actual fact be stereotypical and presumptuous, that doesn’t stop us from liking what we see and hear. Besides, aren’t these symbols exactly what India is known and admired for?
