It took a pool of 27 remarkable Asian artists and a shared disdain for tacky tourist trinkets, widely commercialised and easily available in airports – to venture into something as captivating as Neo Folk 2.
Delve into what bubbles under the surface of living in modern Asia during this multimedia showcase held at the established Ikkan Art Gallery.
Themed “A new wave of Asian Art”, this exhibition curated by Kult Magazine (Singapore), Clear Edition Gallery (Tokyo) & Damien Brachet (Paris) revisits age-old traditional crafts from all around the region, only re-interpreted through the eyes of contemporary artists. While doing away with the inhibitions of their ancestors, the 63 pieces retain unmistakeable marks unique to their creators’ heritage.

Neo Folk is not purely built on the bygone, though. It also has the future of art in mind. The curators see this form of visual expression as a search for identity, a desire to rework heritage in order to shape the future.
This exhibition runs from 15 January to 1 March 2014 and is open from 12-7pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays.
