Hey Dre! Which your favourite tracks off Champion Sound and why?
Stand outs are The Official, McNasty and Champion Sound
What do you think about the making of (recording separately in LA and Detroit) this record and its result?
Putting these 2 together was like a molten lava explosion waiting to happen.. They definitely knew they had to link up after going back and forth. So when they eventually did and this album dropped.. It was just massive.
Dilla lOVEd doughnuts. His uncle opened a tribute doughnut shop in 2016 after he passed from complications due to Lupus in 2006. It was 3 days after his 32nd birthday and the release of his final album, Donuts.
Any fun facts you’d like to throw in? For starters, the two tracks Ice and Raw Addict from the first pressings in USA aren’t included in this.
Wow I didn’t even know that.. I know Dilla did move out to LA to put more hands on production work with Madlib on this. What I do wish to see is a making of some sort of documentary of his classic albums from the ground up. Now that would be gold..
Anything else that makes this record special to you?
It is one of the go-to records I put on to reminisce my time back in SF. Big sound on the underground Hip Hop scene back there at that time.. ✌🏼
