Our Review on ALIEN: COVENANT (2017)

We’ve come a long way from 1979 since the very first Alien starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerrit and a cat named Jonesy (not its real name).

These are enhanced pictures from the set of 1979, featuring H.R Giger, Ridley Scott and Xenomorph.

We’ve been though the franchise that Winona Ryder didn’t improve and we had Prometheus that was a sad attempt of trying to reboot a franchise that a lot of fans thought, was best to leave in its egg. Who can forget that final alien / perfect human rape scene? Horrors.

After all in space, no one can hear you scream.

The latest Alien installment – ‘Alien Covenant’ was a test of everything that Ridley Scott and writer John Logan had in their pods. And it made us sit up and notice, recall, shift uncomfortably in our seats and hope to God that the translucent teenager of an Alien would absolutely fail.

We saw her stand, grow, destroy, kill and be killed.

We were reminded Bishop has indeed had a reboot and he comes in the image of David / Walter in the magnificent form of Michael Fassbender.

No spoilers here but we are brought back to the ancient times of the Botanist and his drawings but we aren’t in the late 1800s.

It is the future and if man has another 200 years to live then we have now seen the future. She is translucent, she is deadly and she is led by Mother.

In a desperate effort to remind us that HR Giger is and was a genius, Alien Covenant takes us on a journey which makes you think of yourself as a colonist who might still have to pilot a ship while knowing your spouse has died and you are left questioning your role in humanity.

We give this film a 9/10.
