The insanity that is OK GO has always taken us aback, because it actually works for good. And we don’t mean to discredit our (or your) initial bewilderment but in this age of instantaneous digital manipulation, after watching and hearing how the music video for Upside Down, Inside Out was made, we think the crew’s immense dedication could be the most overlooked, underrated thing on the internet right now.
(Then again, if we knew the most underrated thing on the internet right now, it wouldn’t be called so.)
TL;DR – In a nutshell, the production of this video involved:
A plane flying at a steep 45 degrees for 20 seconds to reach zero gravity… but only for 27 short seconds.
Slowing down the song by 28.1% in order to fit those 27 second-long absences of gravity.
Splicing eight of those sections together and speeding them up to the song’s actual pace.
Six flights (a week’s worth) of practice at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center.
A pukefest. “58 unscheduled regurgitations”
Two aerialists because dancers, gymnasts and mere mortals always had their feet on the ground.
